I recently took my six month old gyps to fellow member caxtell's starting pen.

This was from when the first started. They had been running for about 20 minutes here.

If you look closely at the very beginning you can see the rabbit before it runs behind my finger.
They seem to have some foot.

Here are the girls working a check.

I have now had them on 2 wild rabbits and they have given voice both times. We had a chase that lasted about 10 minutes. The other was not quite as good. As soon as the next cold front rolls through, I'm gonna get back out there.

Less than 5 months until rabbit season.....

Awesome nothing like statting some pups! Now that they are both started I would start soloing them or running them with an older pup trainer style hound. It seems like they are being really competive with each other in that last video.

GTR,

They are very competive. I am going to both solo and run with a pup trainer type hound within the next couple of weeks.

They also lack confidence which affects their hunt and makes them quit on the trail. I think soloing and packing with an experienced dog will help them with that.

We ran a couple this week and plan to head out shortly if this darn rain quits.

Well it looks as though we have reached the first heat cycle. I guess I'll be fishing for the next few weeks.

Videos turned out good. My dogs were going nuts when I played them. [censored] that there in heat. I'm going to go run my pups today.

Dogs are looking good Brian, maybe we can get together this coming season!

I'm with caxtell, I've been running 5x a week at the moment, weather be darned.

Perch Pack's bringing in consistent 10+ inchers though...

Well I guess it's something you have to deal with when you have girls.

The questions from the boys as of late can be a bit interesting though...

Kyle,

I would be down for a fun run for nwpa guys on some local SGL. I wish I ran 5X per week, but going 2-3 isn't bad.

To be honest, I don't target perch over the few months of the year that we have walleye. Love those boxes that weigh as much as a deer.

Brian,
If your not running with other dogs you shouldn't have a problem. My buddy runs his female while she is in heat and she hunts just as hard. Just keep an eye for other canines.

I'm thinking the same thing, just have to find a suitable SGL.

I enjoy trolling for walleye as well, but I prefer the relaxed atmosphere of perching... Either way, "Fish On" is an exhilarating moment.
