I recently bought a camera, a Canon HF R400 HD to be exact. I was wondering how the battery life on these new camcorders are on cold days? For example, if I was to take my camera outside today, being 3 degrese here today, would the battery last long, and would I have to keep the camera inside my jacket to keep it warm until I was ready to record?

If you have the battery exposed to the cold its going to die quick. Most cameras unless they have a thermal cover won't even turn on. It will say leave camera on so it can heat up. Cold weather stinks. Your best bet for cold weather is to take a blanket with you and wrap it in a back pack till the time or buy a insulated cover for it.
