I’m blaming missing the tang receiver on being so sick from a head cold, lol. I’ll get it browned. Need to figure out how to brown TC sights and aluminum under rib that didn’t take super blue torched or browning solution at all.

Was perfectly smooth but I switched to steel wool to card and it had a little denatured alcohol in it. Sort of created a peeling paint effect. It probably was s blessing since that remaining “paint” was a thick layer and when subsequent browns scrubbed it off the surface brown looked a lot less superficial.

Seems the lock kept rusting a little too. I want to disassemble it anyway to polish all bearing surfaces so I’ll give it another rotella bath then.

Thanks to all for the guidance. I learned a lot during the process. Definitely a good way to learn their functionality and other details.

I can't tell from the pic if the side of the flat has a "scaly" appearance to it, or if it's just "camera stuff". I'm assuming you did not apply any gun oil on it yet. Application of oil to prevent further rusting will give it a different look.

For the sights....I don't know how to get a "brown" or "darkened" look with heat and bluing. I replaced my front sight with just a brass blade, and I removed my Lyman Peep and put back on just a standard metal "V" sight. I cut the rear sight dovetail using a hacksaw and files. If you go that route just don't cut too deep with the hacksaw blades Shallow cuts will remove the metal faster than just a file.

For the RR tubes I tossed the original T\C's and went with steel one's from TOTW. You can brown those to match easily. You will have to drill the steel ones so you can put the tubes in via the T\C RR screws. But that's not too tough of a job.

Good work!! Your T\C won't look like the run-of-the-mill ones anymore!!

Here's a few pics of my re-do. The brass parts I blackened, and just a pic of the replacement RR tubes. The sights in the pic were removed later and replaced with brass blade front and V rear.

Was oiled but I blasted lock with ballistol and more scaling came off. Looks 100% better now. I darkened the RR tubes already. Ended up taking a permanent brown sharpie to the TC sight. The fiber bead I wiped with browning and it etched enough it sorta blends. Going to change to a rear tang Ladder peep at some point.

Once I fall down the cliffs rocks a few times it’ll get a little more authentic patina.

Think it needs the standard sling swivel instead of the current ones. The style that require a lug added to the barrel and drilling through stock. Looks a little funny with a rubber sling and the ramrod sling attachment.

Actually, what I use is something similar to this pic. The one I have is from TOTW and it's about $16 plus shipping. The Track of The Wolf one doesn't show how it looks when put together, but it does work very well. You must be careful when tying it on the barrel....gotta makes sure no RR interference occurs along with no sight picture interference.

At 65yo, I haven't gotten there yet, but certainly understand those that are. I still love the feel of a long rifle cradled in my arm strolling thru the woods.
