They have their fans. I tend to recommend other bows though. Barnetts do offer speed for less dollars and that is what often times attracts folks. IMO, speed is lower on the list as far as what I feel is important with crossbows.

At that price point, I heartily recommend Wicked Ridge by TenPoint.

Good advice above on the Wicked Ridge. Nice bows that hold thier value well.

The Penetrator has a shorter power stroke and will be easier to cock. It's also about a pound lighter, 2 inches narrower and is more comfortable to shoot. The Quad 400 is right at 10 lbs. and I feel it's too heavy.

While I don't recommend Barnett, sometimes we can beat the box stores prices. It takes me about two days to get them in as we don't keep them in stock. I'd be happy to shoot you a price.

I've shot them for about 7 years now...started out with the quad400 and i loved the bow..i now shoot a Buckcommander and its one of the best they make from barnett...its an awsome bow also...what gets me mad at barnett is they lack little perfection...cheap plastic parts, stripped screws...cranking devices they don't debur knowing thier getting complaints and just send replacement strings out...its the little thing that drive shooters crazy...but the bows them selves,i enjoy shooting and are awsome fast and accurate...

I have a quad 400. Very fast, accurate. I needed one that had a crank due to an operation. Little heavy, very fast, scope [censored]. I bought my wifa a parker enforcer, not as fast but if both are available I use hers!!

I feel that bow is kinda lower on the food chain. Its fast but thats about it. I would rather have a more solid built bow. (no plastic parts). The market is great right now, lots of great bows to shoot and try! For the $$$ I would look at other bows. One that will last longer and have less a chance of being a problem. Just my thoughts about Barnett.

Kuvats,I own a Quad 400 and it gets heavy fast while hiking..Before you buy you should go to a store like cabelas or bass pro shops that have a large inventory of crossbows..Handle each one until you find one you like..I lke my quad other then its weight.

I bought a Barnett Jackyl as an entry level crossbow(, I still prefer my compound). I replaced the 3 dot scope and bought better bolts, installed the Simms silencer kit. I have to say that it's totally an OK bow. I don't shoot it a whole bunch, maybe 9 shots a week to practice, but its held up fine. I would recommend it for someone that doesn't want to spend too much to start out. I'm no expert like others here, I may be missing something...JMHO
