bought on several years ago for my boy. took it and patterened it. went spring turkey hunting and called in some jakes. boy pulled the trigger and got a click. gun shoots it you yank the trigger back, but if you just squeeze it ,it don't fire. any thoughts?

sounds like a weak spring or something in the trigger . or if you could take it out and clean it. It might be dirty and or gummed up some way and making it hard to operate properly .

Try spraying some Gun Scrubber or other type of cleaner/degunker down the fire pin hole, followed by a liberal application of silicone. Those Russian guns can be pretty cruddy inside, straight from the factory.

A thorough disassembly and cleaning would be even better. Of course it could be something else, but this would be a good starting point.

Another thing to watch for on the MP18 is to make sure the underlever is completely pushed back into place when locking the barrel back into battery. The firing pin is cocked by the underlever when you break it open, if it's not locked all the way on closing the firing pin either won't hit or won't hit hard enough.
