Back after the brown bunnies.

Took today off from work and had our first cottontail hunt since deer season ended. Hunted with a few of my retired buddies.

We ran all of our male dogs and the ages varied from my 13 month old Duke (who had a nice day on only his second cottontail hunt, he hammered some hare for 3 days as well.) to my 3 1/2 year old Luke.
He was a real savior today.

Running was a bit spotty at first on the frozen ground but these young dogs hung right in there and made a good day of it.

The 3 of us had our limits in about 6 hours and had about a dozen more go to ground.

Solid day in the briar patch.

Nice John! Congrats on another successful hunt!

My dad chased/killed something that was brown today as well but it wasn't a cottontail!

Nice day John. I was out shot at two Della and Lucy ran real well today it was alot of fun, they ran one for well over 1 1/2 hours in the corn field most of the time. Della is running real well and also has alot of hunt in her.

That's great Gary.
I haven't pushed Duke that hard yet. I do make sure he runs every week at least once, usually twice.
He has really kept his head and progressed nicely. Hunts and handles well.
He does like to keep the dead bunnies for himself though. Jumps at them like a Jack Russell and hates to give them up if he gets there first.

Yah Dietsch , Dave and I have been friends for 35 years.

Don't get together as much as we used as we both have our own dogs to run now,and a lot of my spots come with the landowner and landowner's families so I end up pretty full with Hunters.

Good Luck today, we have a shorter day planned to try some new ground.
