Asking for help on fishing locations near williams

2376 Views 18 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Steelchamp204
Hey all, I live in Williamsport Pa. I dont have a boat to go out on. I like to fish Rose Valley lake during the spring and early early time during the summer. I live right by the susq river by the Hiawathaarea. I just need some guidance on good fishing areas off banks and whatnot around the williamsport area. Im not asking for honey holes or secret spot, just need tip on directions or whereabouts to go and fish off the bank. There is a creek I like to fish that feeds into the river that have a lot of rockbass, the occasional smallie and smaller fish. It's nice but it dries up for long periods after some time. If anyone can help me out I would much appreciate it. Just trying to teach myself how to fish also since I was never really taught when I was younger.

look for feeder creeks and streams always are good places to wet a lure or drown some worms. You also want to look for areas that have good depth changes at fairly regular intervals. anywhere there seems to be a steady drop off in depth then a sharp drop off I usually do well in these areas. Also look for points where the land juts out and makes a mini peninsula try to get out to the tip of that and fish both sides and the tip
Anywhere along the river is good.Below the dam at Hepburn Street is good as well. Fish by the wall where the dam is. Use minnows or lures. Lycoming Creek is a stocked trout stream from Brass's Beach up stream. There is a delayed harvest area from Haleeka campground to Powy's curve that has a lot of fish in it. Right below the Hiawatha launch ramp is good as well. Find the weed patches in the summer when they start to show up and target them. Warm enough to wet wade then so you can get out farther.
Lots of catfish in the river too. Just about anywhere you can get to a bank and cast out a bait and wait will work.

what kind of fish are you tryng to catch? then we can recommend bait/lures and different techniques etc...
I think one of the best sports for bank fishing on the river is below the dam. Just remember that you have to give the fish ladder some space if you fish from the South Williamsport side.
am just looking for bass/panfsh to catch. I use soft baitlures a lot and picked up some more oday down at harrisburgsbass pro. I have some crawdads/flukes/senkos/creature baits. I ill try by the dam on monday or so. Ill have to get a tungsten weight and peg it so it gets o the bottom.
Don't want to hijack the thread but are there any ponds or lakes with decent shore fishing within 20-30 min. of williamsport? My dad would like to take my nieces & nephew fishing when he visits them but doesn't know too much about that area.
Best bet is probably Rose Valley Lake.
The gamelands at Allenwood have a lot of ponds and easy access to most. Havent fished there in a while but did well on panfish and catfish in them.
I would try to make some friends with some older gentlemen you meet while fishing. Alot of these guys have a boat, but don't take it out anymore because they can't handle it themselves. I personally fish with several great guys in their golden years, I do the grunt work, we all enjoy ourselves. There is no one better to learn from than a fella like I mention. Its well worth a try.
re the bass near the banks now at Rose Valley if anyone knows?? I want to go on monday morning if so.
yes they are in the water near the bank hope this helps
I heard that the ponds at allenwood are good to get some bass, also... Is that pond at Rose Valley for the public, or is that privately owned??? I noticed it the other day when I went up there on friday.
The pond that can be viewed from the road by the large barn and house with the gate is private.
Bass are not near the banks yet at Rose Valley, been going the past couple fridays and nothing yet. ll be there tommorow afternoon o see if there is any getting ready for beds. Probably not for a coupe more weeks. Gave me time to get used to my new baitcaster though.
Hey another question for below the dam fishing. I want to try some flukes and craws down there, what oz weight should I use to get to bottom due to the current? Thanks for any help, Ill be heading there this week sometime.

Don
Your going to have to experiment with that. What is good 1 time might not be another. With the water high as it is going to take a lot of weight right now.
Are the usually suspended at the dam or on the bottom? I was going to fish down frm the dam alittle bit, not right azt the wall.
