Good luck everyone! Heading out in 10 minutes. Wind isn't too bad just yet, more of a breeze right now. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad. But like Shed Antler said, you can't kill them from the couch, so here we go. Be safe and shoot straight.
Didn't really anticipate going out with the forecast of 40 mph wind gusts but it was calm when I went to bed. When I woke up it was still calm so I figured let's go. Standing in the gathering light I heard the first gobble a good distance off... and 5 seconds later the wind came ripping down the valley. All quiet now in between the gusts.
I cancelled my southern Ohio trip because of all the rain Thursday and Friday and decided to hunt the Pa. opener and sure glad I did. I shot a nice heavy double beard with 1 3/16 spurs at 6:45 this morning. 10" and 8" beards.
Congrats to those that scored. Heard my first bird below me an hour ago. He would answer but wouldn’t come up over the hill he has been quiet for a while now.
I will post pictures later today. Dropped a double bearded long beard at 06:38 this morning. 1st beard 9.5 inches, second beard 5 inches. Both spurs were 1 1/8 inches and weighed 22.4 lbs. Best bird to date.
