I was wondering if anyone goes riding in the cold?

My girlfriend and I are planning on riding more in the cold this year. We ride on the state trails mostly and are waiting to get out.

I am going to ssrt on january 2nd for their winter ride. if your interested let me know and you can ride along with our group. I might do a christmas eve run at michaux next week even more so if this snow that is coming hangs around. maybe a night ride.

if you have never been to ssrt then you would be in for a treat. it is located in the northcentral part of the state. right off of i80.

The SSRT winter ride is a great time. The wife and I went last year and had a blast. They serve a good meal too!

I didn't make it out last night

Ended up staying late at work and after the hour drive home, which normaly is 20 min, I decided to just have a good dinner and relax.

I bet it would have been a good night riding

We ride all year long!! Plus the beer stays colder this time of year!!! Of course where I live, I have access to 1 thousand plus acres to ride on where I can get to from my back yard, so it's easy for my wife and I to just get up and go without dealing with hauling the 4whlr anywhere. But by all means winter riding is a good time and you can't beat some of the views that winter has!! Dress Warm!

Hi, would you mind giving me the "sales pitch" on this ssrt thing?
well if you insist. SSRT is otherwise known as Snow Shoe Rails to Trails. it is an old rail road bed that is located in snow shoe PA. northcentral part of the state and the trailheads are off I80 only a few miles. there are two neat features you can ride on with this trail system. One is a long tunnel that was built right after the civil war. it is 1200 ft long from what I remember. I have not found somewhere else that has this feature. There is also a large bridge that you drive over also. it is 115 ft above the water. here is a video. of the bridge and the tunnel http://www.quad-life.com/videos/watch/36.html it also shows some of the trail available.

here is a ride I was on with pa bird man and a few friends. this is some off trail riding up there. http://www.quad-life.com/videos/watch/34.html

one more video http://www.quad-life.com/videos/watch/40.html

They are going to link the ssrt up with this trail system then http://www.quad-life.com/videos/watch/42.html

It costs 15 bucks to ride 365 days a year 24/7 and it has pretty much everything. hills, jumps, trail riding, scenery, mud, and pretty much the best main trail I have ever been on. they are very family oriented up there. in the winter there is normally a good bit of snow and ice. there is also a little store alongside the trail that offers food you can ride your quad up to. the place is just simply awesome. it is a shame that it is 100 miles away from me but I have been up there numerous times this year. you can also camp at the trailhead. there is also an up to date restroom there.

go to http://www.ssrt.org for more info.

I was riding in the snow storm we had here in southeast PA. My face was freezing and I had ice on my eyelashes. I need to get one of those full face helmets.

campers are allowed. no fee to camp there there is no hookups and no water. you can however drive about 3 miles away to the super market in your vehicle for supplys or ride your quad up the trail to a small sandwich shop that has the normal convience store stuff. SSRT is the best deal going out there. hands down.

this is probably the best area to start someone on. the main trail is rail bed. the other stuff is off trail area the main rail head is gravel and has mud puddles on but nothing of what I shown in the videos. the video of the tunnel and bridge is what is available on the main trail.
