I want to fish pretty badly, but none of my buddies fly fish so I cant take them to a FFO section to fish beside next weekend. I dont wanna be the guy ff around a bunch of night crawler fisherman. I dont mind that they bait fish but I know it will just cause problems if Im trying to fish an area with my fly rod while there is 10 other guys casting minnows into the same hole. Think Ill just wait it out till the huge crowds die down. How about you guys, whats your game plans.?

Never had too much trouble fishing nymphs around other fishermen. Tight roll cast and shorter drifts..... We lit them up on nymphs opening day last year. I caught four fish on my first four drifts.
I am gonna take my spinning rod instead of the fly rod for that reason. But I have friends that are going to fly fish. I usually, don't go out the first day due to crowds.
have to work next weekend, but if we can get done on Saturday I will be able to get out sunday and try out my new rod. can't wait!
its already open around here, besides my dad i am the only guy toting around fly gear.
I have taken the fly pole for the past 4 years on a very tight stream with tons of pressure. I have not had any problems! Take the fly pole and enjoy it!!
For several years I have fished with the fly rod on the first day. No issues here as far as my fly fishing interfering with other fisherman. Roll casts and short drifts are the key.
Every year four of us out camp go to the same stream. Last year my dad and I out fished the other two guys and we were using nymphs and they were using eggs and minnows. It was great! Hahaha

What he said. Take both rods. If it gets to be an issue switch.
Take the fly rod if that is what you enjoy. Stay away from the crowded holes and fish the nice little runs that most bait fisherman pass up. I use my fly rod around people fishing bait and never a problem. Goodluck!
I've taken the fly rod on the first day for the last 11 years and never had an issue. I think my favorite part is having others around me go out of their way to tell me there are no flies on the water and that a fly rod won't work.

You forgot to mention the part that you hook up shortly after they say this, then on the next cast, and then these ney sayers walk away.

Gentlemen,
Our Creeks here in Potter/Tioga are usually pretty high and off color opening day, I might however fish some of the smaller feeder streams, the fly fishing is usually quite good in them, especially the native streams.

I love to make all of the bait fisherman mad by fly fishing opening morning. A few wild casts now and then helps to keep their distance from you! We always have a fly vs. Spin competition, same guys every year and its a hoot, usually 3 of us fly guys and a few of the spin guys, we have fun with it.
