Nope! No deer in 4B. I was leaving my spot in Kennedy's Valley after seeing only a fat bear that stayed in the thick brush. On very well posted land about 300 yds from my stand, here is a herd of old bags -- 15 by actual count. (not all are in this photo) I used flash to lighten them a bit. Would have liked to used the .223. Five days of hunting and only seen five deer!
I was in Potter County the first 2 day but hunted 4B the third. Not a tail. Others i have talked to said they either didnt see anything or only a few doe and hardly any hunters. Tomorrow might be a different story. This is on land that doesnt see alot of pressure. But my brother and their crew of 35 today drove all day on a mountain not far from Blain and managed a bear and i think 3 or 4 buck but not many deer seen and they drove morning until dusk.
Today at 1100 hrs big fat doe. There were eight does in this bunch, I picked out a fat one (she looked like the one in the above photo with a smirk on her face). Well, the NEF .223 with a 55 gr Power Point at 100 yards took that smirk away. I love head shots! The only piece of meat I tossed is the head. I was so worn out from tramping up hills and through brush for four days where I sit my blind Friday afternoon I could see my truck! I saw about 30 deer this morning. First shot I heard was at 0725 hrs, by 0900 hrs I only heard 8 more. Only seen a couple hunters driving in to the parking area. The first deer I spotted were two little guys, they bedded down not more than 20 steps from the blind, they stayed there for three hours, even after I shot over them to smack that doe they didn't move until I came out of the blind. Sunday I will butcher this nice doe.
I'm going out Saturday morning up around Back Hollow Rd and Wolf Rd. Today is a rest up day, took the honey do list and tossed it into the stove! Will go to the range for a little shooting. Eat, nap and keep the stove warm.
Saw lots of deer in archery hunting Tuscarora SF, Little Valley Rd area. Saw 16 deer first day, mostly doe, couple spike, and one i wasn't sure of, buddy missed a 8pt. Saw 6 Saturday including a nice buck that snuck in behind me thanks to the wind, we had a staring contest as my gun was laying across my tree stand, he left after about 30 seconds. Passed on a few doe. For the opening day of Doe Saturday, there was very little shooting, and i am on top the mountain so i can hear the valleys on both sides, i've never heard the first Saturday so quiet. Be back at it Saturday. Deer are there.
I was until Wed. when I filled my last tag. I kept trying different spots till I found them. The rain/snow helped flatten leaves and soften ground. Amazing how many tracks, and how few deer you see moving during daylight. Even found some new rubs and scrapes still being kept open.
