Wonder what would be the best types of habitat that would hold the most grouse. I had a ball this evening wit the lab and had one flush in the hour I was out. I think the habitat is there and have seen a lot of grouse all over where I am hunting, just want to know what is better. I have on average while shed hinting 4-5 flushes per trip.

These are the options for tomorrow,:

5+ year old thicket
Stand of hemlock pines between the 5+ year old clearcut
Hillside with wild grapes with thicket on top
Sunny side of hill with tons of green briar
Hollow with pines on each side and Japanese knotweed in the center.

What in your opinion is the best type of habitat to find them.

My opinion is they sound great but from my experience you may move 20 birds in any one cover in a day then depending on all the variables they will be somewhere else on any given day we call it run and gun . Try a spot no birds move to the next spot.

Well I picked the right one. Hillside with grapevines and thicket. Went with a buddy of mine, and my lab Lilly. Lilly put up 3 I missed one and got one. My buddy didnt get a shot but saw 2 more. Great hunt from 10:30-12:00

I have never seen grouse tracks like that before. Was a great day and the happiest of my hunting career. Finally got my first grouse, and it was over my Lab on her second trip out. Hope to have more hero shots with her.

man she looks great in this picture

When you said "Was a great day and the happiest of my hunting career", I think it is safe to say another Addicted Grouse Hunter was born.

Congratulations to both your good looking Lab and you on your first Grouse. That's the one memory you will probably never forget.

Good job man! Congrats! Nothing like hunting with a good dog/lab. Mine put up two more pheasants for me this morning and is now snoozing.

Thanks guys. I am definetly hooked for sure. I can not wait to get her out again. Blessed to live by such great grouse habitat. Felt good to finally get one and not get that "What the heck!" look from Lilly when I miss. LOL
