There was a time that it was just Ruger, Thompson Center, and Browning that made a single shot rifle... Now you have a lot cheaper models being made...Spartan, Rossi, NEF, CVA Apex. CVA Apex are saying they are better then Encore.. Of course anyone can say anything they want. The Apex has a Bergara barrel... Can't cut that barrel down..My CVA Wolf cheapo 209 magnum has a Bergara barrel and it shoots great.
Notice cabelas sales a Bergara 35 Whelen for the Encore action...Might be OK to have a 35 Whelen Bergara if you sit in a swamp and shoot close? I don't know how accurate they are.

Anyway.. sure is a lot of single shot rifles being made now.

Neat thing about the single shots that you can change the barrel out on? Once you get to shooting them.. The gun for obvious reason feels the same no matter what barrel you use..So even if it's a single shot.. You end up making outstanding running shots since your use to your firearm...

When I was in highschool I would come home and grab my lever action 22 ,I think montgomery wards sold it but i would take it and hop in my lttle boat and go down river and squirrel hunt. The thing was was after every shot i had to take my pocket knife and pry the spent 22 shell out of the chamber, so i had one shot to get my squirrel. That kinda got in my blood so much that latter I bought a contender to do some single shot squirrel hunting.

I recently read in Oct 2010 GUN TESTS magazine that the H&R 1871 Ultra 308 Win received a (Grade of B). The 308 Win CVA APEX 4502 and the CVA Scout 3006. They both received the grade of "C". I wonder what grade the GUN TESTS researchers would have given the T/C Encore?
