I'm off Tuesday through Thursday of next week and I can't decide whether or not to sit all day or just periods of the day? That being said, I'm looking to shoot a 2 1/2 year old or older buck. Has anyone been able to achieve this feat from sitting btwn the hours of 9am-3pm the last week of Oct? Thanks for your input ahead of time.

Cooler temps...I expect deer to move a bit...young bucks I'd expect will start looking like zombies and moving a good bit more...

I'm heading out Tuesday and if I have action I'm probably sitting dark to dark just because there's no reason for me to leave...

I used to sit dark to dark most of the season because I had nothing else to do...I was surprised at the deer i saw mid day even when it was hot out early in the season...

If you aren't seeing anything I'd likely relocate...bit if you're seeing deer and don't have a reason to leave....why not hunt??

When I can, I sit(I stand actually) all day from the start of Squirrel season on. Had a bruiser swim across a river a few years back at 1pm. Sadly he never gave me a shot and I never saw him again.

All I can say if you can sit all day do it.
In my younger days I could if I wanted.
Now my Back and other parts have about a 6 hour max.
You could also go in a little later in the morning and
hang a little later.
Pa. records show many Bucks were shot at 12 noon.

If you can... go for it. I usually plan for 2-3 all days. I personally have never seen a bigger buck moving between 10-3. I know guys kill during those hours, but I always wonder how many of those deer were bumped by other hunters exiting or entering stand. Next week, with the temps I would at least sit until 1030-11

If you're seeing deer, you're confident and relatively comfortable...stay. I sat all day last Saturday, and it was very tough getting through the afternoon because it was dead after noon...I should have left, but I didn't.

Only 1 buck was shot first hour or last hour of the day for me, and those are the times I usually hunt. Most of my bucks have been taken between 9:00 am and 2:00 PM. I don't know why??? I've seen them at all times, but my connect ratio is better mid-day.

Any more it will take a steady stream of deer all day for me to stay in stand all day. Even then I might leave. LOL
Doesn't mean that much to me any more. More power to you guys who do it often. I usually kill deer at 8:00-9am or the last 10 minutes of light.

Majority of my sixteen bucks have been between 10:30 - 2 pm.

Be careful of getting burnt out doing all day hunts early in the season. Sometimes I get excited and put too much time early in the year and it wears on you before the going gets good.

I sit all day but not till November rolls around. In October it is morning and evening for me, but the closer Halloween comes, mid day activity will be pick up.

IMO, the best time to kill the best bucks in any area is November between 10:00 and 2:00. You may not see as many deer, but the bigger deer will be up and about.

I work second shift and use to hunt every morning from the start of season and sit morning and evenings on saturdays but I would get burnt out by the time november rolled around !!
Now i hunt saturdays morning and evenings and a da here and there when the wind is right for my stands. I run 9 trail cameras and check them sundays at mid day then if i see any good deer moving i"ll start hunting the mornings everyday ! When November rolls around I use 1/2 days of vac and that lets me sit until dark and I have to be to work at 7.
Most of my bucks i've shot have been around 3pm until dark. I have taken a couple in the am though. Also most of my bucks I have killed the last week or even the last day or so of season. You just never know when they will be moving. Just don't get burnt out to early ! Good Luck guys !!!
