Access Area at Armstrong County's
Mahoning Creek Lake to be Temporarily Closed

HARRISBURG, Pa. (April 5) — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is alerting anglers and boaters that the Sportsman’s access area at Mahoning Creek Lake in Wayne Township, Armstrong County, will be closed for the day on April 22 and April 29 as work is performed on the hydroelectric project at the dam.

“Beginning on April 8, the Mahoning Creek Hydroelectric Company will start using about half of the parking lot as a staging area for work to be done on the project,” said John Sinclair, PFBC chief of construction and maintenance. “The access area will remain open to the public until April 22, when it will be closed for the day so the company can use the boat launch to begin to move equipment to the dam. The access area will be closed again on April 29.”

The access area will reopen to the public on April 23 and again on April 30.

As part of the project, the company is permitted to close the access area for up to an additional three, one-day periods. The company will place “Closed” signs at the Sportsman’s access area and at the beginning of the entrance drive at least seven days in advance of the scheduled closings.

The closings will happen on weekdays only. The access area will remain open on weekends and holidays.

Mahoning Lake has two access areas - Sportsman’s access area and Milton Loop access area. The project affects only the Sportsman’s access.
