What's the rule on how a place should be posted? What's the distance in between the signs? I could sware I seen it somewhere but can't remember where.

however you want.
Rules?
Why would there be rules?
There are no "rules" on how to post property.
Here is one. If you tresspass on posted land it will cost you 25 dollars. If you tresspass on none posted land it will cost you 300 dollars
Not directed towards anybody but you know how many times I have heard it isn't posted legally meaning it's ok to hunt the land without legal action being taken. People just don't get it if they don't have permission they should stay off.
I have a friend who hunts anywhere where the land is not posted.

He hunts by himself.

Pure ignorance to hunt on land that you do not have specific permission from the landowner to be on.

Yeah and so does 75% of PA hunters.
If you don't know who owns the property and have permission from that person you shouldn't be there, signs or not.
I want to find the guy who hunts on land which he doesn't have permission to hunt on. I want to find his house, walk in the front door and sit down on his couch and watch some TV. When he comes home and asks me what the heck I am doing, I am just gonna say, hey the house wasn't posted...

PA needs to adopt more serious trespassing laws. They need to allow WCO's to enforce trespassing laws whether there are game laws being violated or not. In Virginia, trespassing on non posted land is a class 2 misdemeanor carrying up to 6 months in jail and a $1000 fine. Trespassing on posted land without written permission is a class 1 misdemeanor and carries up to a year in jail and a $2500 fine. Trespassing is still an issue, but nothing like it is in PA. Guys know they may actually face something more than a joke of a slap on the wrist!

i have been told there are laws like they hav eto be on their own freestanding sign, dated signed with contact info. things of that nature. kinda makes sense to be signed with contact info, that way jokers cant just run around posting any place they see not posted. no idea if any of those are true

You can't compare a person's home to a piece of ground. No where near the same.

Dig around in these Forums... you will find this same topic and discussion elsewhere.

There are NO set guidelines.

What everyone is trying to say is that Private Property IS Private Property! It doesn't matter if a sign is up or where the sign is or if the Sign is signed. Private Property IS Private Property!

There are no exact codes. Any signage that you put up is more a matter of marking the boundaries or making a scent post marking your territory. And, the trespassers are going to find a multitude of reasons for it to be okay for them to trespass on your property. But, the more you signs you put out, the more you have CYA.

We'll agree to disagree... But I am sure if I came to that same trespassers back yard, set up a lawn chair and started getting a sun tan, he'd be all the less happy. Private ground is private ground... Sign of no sign.
If you are going to post your ground, a good rule to follow is that there is no way for the person to enter your property without reasonably seeing a no trespassing sign. So, every 10 yards, 30 yards, you pick it, just make sure there isn't a gap big enough depending on the thickness of the woods where the signs are going up.

I agree with you CJBS2003.
I totally agree. Private is private. Why should A landowner who paid for the land and pays real estate taxes have to worry about non invited people on his land?

Maybe if the laws were more strict, a lot less hunters would "get lost". I dont know how many people ive had to show them the road because they got lost on my property that is clearly posted.
You do not have to have your property posted any one tresspassing on your land must have written permission
I agree 100% with CJBS... my property is my home, and Im the only person who belongs there!

I hate to tell you but in PA if it is not posted it is free game for anyone as long as they are legally hunting.

I asked a DJ and read the law, supposidly there is case case law as to how the posted signs should be posted. I have yet to find it.

I agree, you should ask permission to hunt the private land but in PA it is legal to hunt private property as long as it is not "legally" posted.

I posted the link on a thread a few weeks ago from the PA Crimes Code Title 18, section 1303 (If my memory serves me correctly)

If a DJ finds you guilty for trespass and you appeal to Commonweath Court, your attorney will bring the case law as a defense. IMO
