Monday night Ryan and I went out for a few sets even though the wind was a little tough and continued to switch directions. We scored a red on our first set, got busted on our second and came up blank on our third. On our fourth set we were sitting in a cut field about a hundred yards from the corner of a wooded area. About 5 minutes into the call sequence a set of eyes came busting out of the woods approximately 150 yards up the hill. They came charging in like a gray with a purpose. The eyes were closing the distance fast and since it was coming in on Ryan’s side of our predetermined shooting area, he lit it up with the gun light at about the 70 yard mark. I also lit it up so I could watch the shot through my scope. It never missed a beat and continued coming in even though we were not calling anymore. I then heard Ryan whispering “don’t shoot” and I replied back “I know I know”. Ryan started mouth squeaking when it was about 50 yards out. It stopped and laid down on its stomach and started to slowly crawl towards us. Every time Ryan squeaked it came closer and closer. At about 20 or so feet Ryan whispered something like isn’t this the coolest thing you have ever seen. Ryan then started to meow like a cat to see what it would do. It stopped, looked around then continued to inch its way closer. We called the bobcat in within just a few feet before we started to talk loudly. We were getting concerned it might jump on us. The bobcat turned and walked away looking back every few yards. I’m sure it was wondering what the heck just happened. It walked back into the woods and sat and watched us until we reached our vehicle.

I have called in over 50 bobcat and have never had one respond quite like that and get that close.

I only wish I would have had my video camera with me, it would definitely have been something to record.

Cool, I called one in last year that just sat there a 100 yards away looking at the sound.
