Last evening, I read about this on another forum: An MDer was carrying two spare 9 volt batteries in his pocket and ended up with a burn on his leg. Apparently the posts on one of them were touching the other battery case.

I did some quick Googling, and immediately ran across a news article from this summer, where a 9 volt started a fire in a junk drawer in a house. They had recently cleaned out the drawer and put all of their batteries in a baggy in the drawer.

My girlfriend carries two 9 volts in her pouch, as spares for our Propointers. About 20 minutes after I told her about it, I saw her covering the posts with electrical tape.

this happened to me one time, I was carrying a spare battery pack holding 8 AA's in my Pocket with some change. it not only
started burning my leg it melted & destroyed the Battery pack.
after that I always kept battery packs in my pocket, in a Plastic baggie,
and now just keep a single 9 volt for my pinpointer
by itself, in the small fob pocket in my jeans
