I have a 760, 2-11/87's, and an 870. I did my own mods on that stiff sear spring before I found out Remington sold a 3lb. sear spring for their target guns which is a simple drop-in and costs a few bucks. The Timney unit is a bit more complex necessitating the removal of some parts to replace and it is a bit more adjustable but retails for about $90. If you're a tinkerer you can make things work, I used to make the change by clipping a 1/4 coil off the sear spring and then try it before cutting more. If you cut too much, it won't work right and you have to buy a new spring. (Most who tinker know this risk.)

My recommendation would be to try the Remington target spring first. This is the product you want for a replacement:
