Does anyone know what is the smallest round ball and patch I can shoot in my .45 Ky long rifle for small game?

On page 21 of the 2010-2011 Hunting & Trapping Digest, you will find the following: "Muzzleloading rifles and handguns .40 caliber or less", are legal for small game.

Oh, well. So much for that. I was hoping I could shoot a smaller ball with a larger patch out of my .45. I assume shooting a .40 out of a .45 still wouldn't meet the regs.(?)

Except that the small game caliber restrictions do not apply to groundhogs.

Now there's an idea. Let me know if anyone knows what is the smallest round ball I could fire out of a .45 cal. long rifle.

I shot 58's out of my 62. Not on purpose, just took the wrong ones to the range. Double patched them and they shot OK.

For small game it isn't the projectile actually fired, it is the caliber of the rifle or handgun. For muzzleloading for big game there are minimum projectiles. Seems kind of inconsistent but that is the rule.
