I recently purchased my first 44 mag. Ruger SBH with 7.5 inch barrel. My brother and I are getting ready to load up 300 rounds or so next weekend. I was wondering if anyone cared to share what works well out of their 44? I'll be using 240gr Nosler JSP's, but looking for info on what powder/gr you guys are using.

Outstanding! I have the same pistol! I love it. And I use the same bullets. lol. I threw a simmons 2x6 on top and keep a 2 inch group at 100 yards. I carry it around in an Uncle Mikes Camo Bandolier Holster. So easy to carry. To have both hands free when walking through the woods is a freeing experience.

If my memory serves me I believe I am using 2400. When I get home I can give you more specifics. I did a ton of load development. I mean a ton. I found that my pistol does not like factory ammo. Except American eagle. 240 JHP. Didn't like the fast 180 rems or the white box winchester 240s. I said didn't like, that's still 5-6 inch group at 100 yards. Which is not ok with me. It also likes a real tight grip. I mean tight.

I shot a doe with it at 35 yards and she went about 30 yards and was done. My brother shot a buck the same year, went through both shoulders at 25 yards and bullet was under skin on opposite shoulder. Dropped the buck in his tracks.

Wow your going to have fun with that pistol!!!

That's great to hear. I am really looking forward to getting into the woods with it. Aside from reloading, I have been researching scopes as well because I would like to be able to get out to 100yrds with it. I'm curious to know how many rounds you have under that simmons scope? The reviews for most scopes seem so up and down that I am having a hard time deciding what to get. I am definitely going to have to look up that holster as well. Handgun hunting is very new to me, but I want to enter the woods confident in both the weapon and my capabilities. Please do get back to me with any load specifics you have. We were planning on using blue dot, but I wanted to see what others liked first.

I use h-110 along with mag primers - CCI 350.. and 240 gr XTP hornady.
My brother finished off his bear with this load and worked perfectly.. holds a good group at 75 yds with open sights out of a Dan Wesson..

Heres a picture of mine. I have plans of giving it to my son (he's 2) in about 30 years or so, God willing.

My friend and I each shoot S&W mod. 29s. He always loaded 2400 and I always use WW 296 with mag. primers and 240 g. JHP or JSP. I always found 2400 to be dirty? Ran near max. loads with the 296. Shoot clean thru a deer at 135 yds. and it would topple the steel rams at 200 yrd. at the steel shoots!

Not sure how the Black Hawks tend, but my Red Hawk never cared for jacketed bullets bigger than .429. I've used 2400, W296, H110 over the years. I like H110 for stout loads. I use H110 for jacketed bullets 240 and up. I like 2400 for hard cast lead, plinking on up to heavy loads.

With iron sights, I sight my Super Blackhawk to shoot dead on at 50 yards.

With a scope, my Super Redhawk is sighted to shoot dead on at 100 yards.
