I thought I would try my 1894 Marlin .44 Mag for deer this season. Any thoughts on how Hornady's new soft pointed ammo would work. I've used a lot of jacketed soft points @ 240 g and they did a good job.

I have 2 Marlin 1894 44 mags.and use Hornady XTP in both. Some like the flex tips some hate them. One of mine I use 240gr XTP the other gets 300gr XTP.Both do well at 50 yds.

Don't have pics of the 300gr groups but they are giving me less than 1" groups at 50yds with 20.5 grs of W-W 296.

Everybody I talk to speaks very highly of the XTP's performance. That's what I'm going to run in my Henry. As far as the FTX's go they have been very accurate in my 30-30 and 35 but the few deer that I have shot with them left sparse blood trails. Just my experience with them.
