The .38 Super is more popular in South America than
it is here. I see them every now and then, ammo is pricey.
The last ones I encountered were a Taurus and a "frankensteined" Colt 1911. The guy selling the Colt
was trying to get $800 for it.

the rifleman recently ran an article on it, you shoould pick up a copy. I've shot them in 1911s, a decent gun. Obviously, it was to be a high performance load, but the 45 auto eclippsed it.

It was/is popular with the bad guys in South America as many countries prohibit having a citizen have a "military cartridge" hand gun. So the 38 Super has fit that role.

It is close to a 357 in performance.

You will see 1911 style .38 Super's at military matches. Also, Dillinger and Babyface were known to like them.

The cartridge was pretty popular back in the 80's and 90's as a pin gun. I saw alot of them built up on 1911 frames. Better controlling muzzle flip and it would shed some time off your pin time. Was also popular with early "Bianchi Style" shooters. Tom.
