i was given a Remington Model 71 .348 by my wife's uncle. The gun shoots great as long as the target is not moving; it still has the original fixed power scope mounted (side mount). Needless to say, the eye relief has much to be desired.

Just looking for suggestions on a low or fixed power scope that would work well for a side mount with quick target acquisition.

Thanks in advance!

A 2.5x20 Leupold would be my pick. Though the tried and true Leupold 4x33 would be hard to beat. Also, I would check out the Weaver line of fixed power scopes.

When I was a kid I had my Model 94 drilled & tapped for the side mount and I had a Weaver K3 scope on it...It was good for me and plenty for the woods!

The 340WBY is a LOT different from a 348.

And I'll guess this 348 in question is a Winchester M71? If so, you're a lucky, lucky man to be given such a gift. The '71s are not cheap these days. Enjoy it!
