I have a 1896 Krag that it was my grandfathers it is in very good condition but the stock was cut. I guess they call it sporterized. I just picked up a full uncut 1902 stock for $149.00, but the 1902 wont fit at the bolt handle area. Its to small. My question is, should I cut away the 1902 stock to make in fit, or keep looking for 1896? I know the tatatoo wont match the barrel but I'm look to try to bring it back to almost near original.

if your looking to make it as original look for the right stock for sure.People that collect will be able to tell the difference for sure.I'd sell the stock yo got to someone that is looking for that year to get the most out of it.I would take my time till the right one comes along or let it the way granpa had it as a family airloom.
