For the past 21 years of rifle hunting, my family has traditionally made our trek up to camp. Due to some unforeseen circumstances this year, our plans changed to the following weekend. We left Thursday November 29 and got up there after work.
Woke up early Friday morning, November 29 and made my way down a logging road I hunted in archery this year. Decided I was going to move to a different area than in archery, but when I got there it just didn't look good. Decided to continue down the trail, which I picked up some tracks in the snow. Climbed half way up a hill and decided to post up in a tree there, overlooking the trail and a field about 150-175 yards way deep in the forest.

Around 8:30 I seen some movement down in the field side closest to me, but couldn't make out what it was, even through the scope, through the thick treeline and high grass of the field. I hit my grunt tube and within about 2 minutes a buck appears on the back end of the field. I pull my gun up and zero in, he walks another 3 yards or so and I let out a shot. The buck jumped up and headed down towards the creek. I felt pretty good about shot at that time. I waited about 30 minutes or so and climbed down. Packed up my treestand and gear and headed towards the field.

As soon as I got to the edge of the field, he ended up circling around and ended up 50 yards in front of me for a 2nd shot. Took the shot and there he laid. I ended up shooting underneath of him the first time around. Luck was on my side with him circling back around. Took about 2 hours to drag him back uphill to the truck. Ended my season with what I feel is a good mountain buck and a doe in archery.
Pics were taken back at camp.

Will most likely do a Euro mount with this one. Thought about getting a mount but it had a broken brow.

Yikes - glad it wasn't me walking by down in the field. It's a lot less scary when someone has their binoculars on you instead of their scope. :wink2:

That's a real nice buck! I scrolled for the photo before I read the story, and upon first glance I thought how perfect it would be for the wall - tall and symmetrical. I didn't notice the broken brow tine until you mentioned it. Congratulations on your two-deer season.
