May as well use a hand grenade unless you only take head shots.

I dont think I would use standard 223 loads on squirrel or rabbit. It will probably blow them up bad. If you reload you can put together a reduced load to use. I have a reduced load for my .222 that I am going to use for squirrel's. I am using 8gr of IMR Trail Boss powder and a 40gr bullet.

Good luck, Tony

Does anyone use a .223 centerfire for small game like rabbit or squirrel on the ground? Would it tear them up quite a bit or not? Just wonder how it would work for small game.
Only on groundhog, turkey, and when i was younger deer.

BTW...that was with a .222.

look at the predator forum and the damage a 223 will do to a groundhog... bullet choice is always a consideration but I would definitely opt for a different gun for small game.

I may have to use my 223 if the 22lr ammo supply doesn't change.
My supplier usually has a pallet of 22 lr in the store. (no I'm not kidding).
