I was hoping the moderators could make this a sticky for the year. I felt bad the past couple months going hunting and not taking the pooch. I was able to take my chocolate lab out behind our house this afternoon for a couple hours and we were lucky enough to find our first shed of the season. It was an older shed (last year), but still in really good shape. Hopefully many more to come!!! Good luck everyone!!!

Found this pretty nice 13 point set from last spring in Ohio about a month ago on Public Ground while doing a push for my dad. (2011-2012 Rack) And it turns out that I think they are the previous years rack of the buck i almost got a shot at in November. But ended up shooting a 6 point with an 18' spread the next day instead..

Anyhow, Scored them with an estimated spread and came out to 141'. Bigger side was 64'. And actually went back the next day for the same drive and found one side of this same buck from the (2010-2011) season. I Cant wait to actually start shed hunting this spring here in PA, but its always when your not looking for them you find them! Hopefully when i go back to Ohio in turkey season he's still around and I find his sheds from this year.

A good find. And yes, I'd say it's in really, really good shape for an antler that has been lying on the ground and exposed to the elements for a year. Tell us why you think that is last year's shed. In the photo it looks much fresher than that. The base is still darkly stained. I've never seen a shed that has been lying in the ground for a year that is so dark. Is the gloss gone? Has the bone deteriorated and become punky?

Steve.

Found 2 Small fresh ones yesterday, Sat 1/12/2013 Not matched as you can see bases are way different sizes. Found under my corn feeder hahhaa first time ive ever found any near my feeder. My bucks are dropping early this year. There is like 6 or so missing both or one side already, Last year not one buck shed till middle of Feb at this location. Some hold till end of march here. Crazy! I got both of these bucks on my camera at the feeder as well so that was pretty cool.

Beav,
A logger along Route 66 got a 60 inch 5 point shed (smokin' fresh!) off the ground yesterday (January 14th). I was looking like crazy without the snow on the ground while I was out working, but no luck.

I figured you would have had a sack full from the thaw already!

mike,
No kidding? between pigeon and mareienville? Im up to 5 fresh ones. One is a pretty big set. I will post some pics when i get them back. My dad took them to show guys he works with but they are 5's that measure over 60 inches. I plan on hitting hard this weekend if we dont have much snow. Looks like we might be ice fishing the following weekend!

Found yesterday(ignore time and date) on heavily hunted sgl, about a 5 minute walk from a parking lot. Some of these guys just know how to survive. Still early around here. But happy to find it.

Went for a walk yesterday here in Delaware and jumped four bucks still holding. I guess it will still be a few more weeks before they drop.
