So I've been sick and working night shifts. I had to drag myself out of bed this morning. I pulled into the farm I am hunting around 0630 and got dressed. I decided to take the long route to my stand which I never do. As I approach a large open field I can see a doe and a buck but it was still a little too dark to count tines. They saw me standing so I ducked down and crawled 20 yards or so back behind cover and ran back to the truck for my binoculars. I crept back to the field edge and was able to count tines and make him out as legal. I ranged him at 202 yards and let the first round fly. The deer crouched like I went over his back but didn't run. I let another go and he just stood there looking at me. As I get ready to shoot once more he starts to walk off. He was now quartered away from me and I am frustrated. I placed the crosshairs on him one more time and squeezed off the last round. He walked off slowly into some thick cover along a large creek.
I thought maybe I had missed but then I found some blood. Then 10 yards from where I shot at him I can see him down on the creek bank. I had passed on this buck in early archery but my time in the woods and my wifes patience were both wearing thin. I looked to see where my rounds hit and found that the first two hit their mark behind the front shoulder and the third entered 8" back and exited through the front. All three rounds from the 270 hit and this animal didn't even flinch. I had never seen that before. So the tag is filled, the pressure is off, and I can try to get out and fill some doe tags when the wife says I can go.
The animal is tagged but it is tucked in behind the ear!
I drove to my kids pre-school to show them before they went in. The looks I got from some of the soccer moms was priceless. My son was excited and said when he gets home we have to cut him up so we can eat him. My 4 year old daughter just wanted to see her friends and went straight in the building with nothing more than a wave and a loud good job dad!

I never heard of them not flinching etc when hit with a rifle. Had it sort of happen in archery. Doe continued to feed took a step and fell dead.

Mikey. Thanks and yes there was a huge 10pt I was working on and just couldn't make it happen. Hopefully he continues his winning streak vs hunters and gives me a chance next year.
