In the cold weather they hole up and pee themselves and lay in and it gives them that yellowish tint or color , also it makes them itchy and they rub the areas that were saturated with urine and the hair comes off !!!
Personally, I'll never believe that unless I see actual proof from a study. I think its just in the genetics of some coons in our region. Some of the best coons I've caught (silver/black) have been very late in the season, and some of the worst yellow/brown ones I've caught during the first week or two of the season.
