Wow!! I never knew we had a squirrel season that was unlimited and open all year except for one month!! Never even gave that much thought. I do know a lot of states have a spring season but some states are just loaded with them because they have a warmer climate and they reproduce there like crazy. I love squirrel. Bet those spring young ones are tender.

I also noted the hawks were unprotected. I know habitat has a great deal to do with the decline in numbers but I also know that hawks kill a lot of small game. I would never have believed the amount of game a hawk can take if I didn't see it with my own eyes.

It was a nice digest, same size as your hunting license so could be carried in the same back tag pouch.
A lot has changed in the last 50 years, some I like, some I don't, miss the overall simplicity the most.

Thanks for posting. I have held on to all my digest since day 1. IMO the world was a better place in simpler times.

I forgot that the hunting year would run from September till August the following year. For some reason that seemed more natural. September 1st doves would open, and for dad and I , that meant the hunting season officially started. Wow, I get that far away feeling when I think back to those days.

I remember that late August was back to school shopping as well as going for the hunting license. And a few days of Dove season before school started were like Heaven. Getting the new hunting license softened the dread of going back to school.
