17 WSM / Savage B.Mag Availability

I am really excited about this new rimfire cartridge. I think it will make a great fox round and a fun all-around gun. I have 130 acre property that I usually carry a 22 lr around with me for plinking. I think the 17 WSM will be a big upgrade.

I owned one Savage in the past - an old bolt-action .30-.30. I didn't like the gun at all. The more recent reviews of Savage have been good and they will be the first chambering the cartridge so I'm going to give Savage another try.

Has anyone gotten their hands on one yet? Do you know when they will hit shelves?

I've been looking and haven't found them. Not even online.
They are not out yet, but Grice Gun Shop in Clearfield is taking pre-orders for them. I put $50.00 down on one; they are due in around May.
I personally like savage rifles. Accuracy can't be beat for what you pay for them. I'd out them up against rem, win, or other major manufacturers any day.

I can wait to see some of the offerings for the .17 wsm. Might wait to read some reviews before buying one , but will most likely pick one up in the next year.

I read an article on them last night, if I remember correctly it is not a rimfire, it is a center fire round, they took a .27 nail gun round and necked it down to accept a .17 caliber bullet.

You might have it confused with Hornady's 17 Hornet.
Bill
yep, im wrong, as usual. it is a rimfire. the only thing i was right about is how they came to build it with the .27 nail gun.
Like the rest of us I am still waiting on the B Mag
How could someone that owns a gun shop never hear of one?

I re-read the entire post, what is your comment in reference to?
I'm not a 17 fan, but it's hard not to notice this one. Glad to see savage design a new rifle for it, and hopefully it doesn't have ejection problems like the 93 series. Anyone know why winchester didn't step up with a new platform for this themselves?
Winchester does have a rifle for it. Looks like a single shot rolling block lever action. Or maybe they had that rifle barreled & chambered for it.

I have never had any ejection issues with any of my Model 93 rifles.
Scoop I got on the Model B .17wsm is Dick's is getting the first few hundred in May.

How did you hear this? I too figured Dick's would be the place to check. One of the sales people I know in Erie told me they had received 4 Model 25 17 Hornets that were dropped off personally from their Savage rep, this was after I special ordered a M25 .204 Ruger.

So I called them yesterday and spoke to the manager on duty and she told me they never know what they are going to receive until the day prior. when I mentioned the Savage rep she denied he was ever in and that he had never dropped off any rifles. I'll have to touch base with my "guy" there.
Plinkin,
I know folks at both companies. They should show up in late May.

Thanks Dakota. I would rather get it from my local dealer who is a Savage direct distributor but if I have to I will get it from Dick's. Could always use some extra score card points.

I plan to transfer the scope from my 22 Hornet on to it and find something different for it.
Latest scoop I have heard is some will show up in June/July. Seems things got pushed a little from the May that was originally being talked about.
