Just recently I purchased a 16 gauge double barrel percussion muzzle-loader. Never been down this road before as far as Shotgun loads goes, etc... as I've only hunted with a T/C Hawkens 50 Cal. Flintlock.

I plan on using it for some Small Game, maybe even Turkey.

Just what does everyone use as far as:

A. Shot Cups needed to be used to keep a pattern OR fibre wads, over shot card, over powder cards better?

B. Black Powder measurements?

C. Shot measurements?

My plan is using 2F Goex down the barrel.
#4 Shot for Turkey
#7 1/2 Shot or #8 for Squirrel, etc.

Recommendations Please.

Re: 16g. Double Barrel Percussion

Is it a newer one or an old origional?
a)No shot cups
B)I use 70grs of FFg in my 17ga and 18ga.Here is a chart for MUZZLELOADING shotguns.

http://www.goexpowder.com/load-chart.html

C)Eaqual amounts of powder/shot up to 1/3 mor shot.I use 1 1/8oz.
D)Shot size for game should be 1 size larger than used in modern shotgun.I use #4 for squirrel and pheasant and #6 for rabbit.
E)Pattern your gun.Once you have a uniform 25yd pattern, make sure you shot can penetrate both sides of a steel can.
F)powder,1/8"over powder card, fiber wad, shot, over shot card.I lube my wads with Bear oil but Olive oil or any nonpetrolium base oil will work.

This also might help

What is the exact bore size?
You want that over the powder card tight and the over the shot. The fiber wad can be gauge or 1 size under.
Take the barrel off and look for "ELG" either by it self or in a circle under the barrels.

Yes, I was just going to post some pics but there is ELG inside an oval circle under the barrels.

Barrels are brown and are 30" from the muzzle to the nipple.

Plan on polishing all metals and possibly refinishing the stock.

Re: 16g. Double Barrel Percussion

Looks like from the metric stamps that bores are 16ga.
17.0-.669 16.8-.661.
There is a English proof with the crown.English imported some Belgian barrels.Ofter Belgian barrels were welded together and stronger where English were soldered and weaker.

Here is the "FDF"

I would leave her in origional condition!NO REFINISH!
Take a shotgun rod,16ga brush, and wrap some 0000 steel wool.Put the rod on a drill.Oil inside good and polish her up.
The 0000 steel and oil will remove rust from steel on outside but won't hurt finish.Johnson paste wax on wood.
Looks like a shooter!
