Bing Crosby video..Hunting with other famous guys?

I saw one time, maybe in the late 1970's or early 1980's, a hunting video where Bing Crosby was walking the fields with a few other famous guys of the era. I think they were hunting rabbits or...

Frozen-In Muskrat Traps...what to do?

About 90% of my traps are out of commission due to the low temps and ice. Most of my body grips are only about 2/3 submerged in water which is now frozen. And my foot holds at slides and blind sets...

Re: "Green" fur...definition...muskrats...

Thank You. So we do not need to be in a hurry to sell our stretched muskrat hides. That's good news since we were not planning to sell until February.

Re: Marking cables and sets?

I am thinking with regular canine sets like flat sets and dirt holes to start walking ten steps from the set and putting in a 3/8" fiberglass fence post. Hopefully it won;t scare anything off. I have...

Re: Marking cables and sets?

We are mostly in private farm areas so I'm not worried about theft as much as I am about spooking the animals. We had three bobcat sets snowed under a couple days ago and we knew where they were...

Marking cables and sets?

Do any of you mark your sets and cable restraints so they are easier to find, especially in the snow?

Cables are almost impossible to find and while a hay set sticks out as a big lump in the snow,...

I can tell you ALL of my mink (4) stories. And they are all identical stories: "Hey, look at that, there's a mink in my muskrat trap!" https://www.huntingpa.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: Cable stakes?

I pull them out with a pick-axe. Sometimes we need to put a piece of 2x4 under it in soft dirt and sometimes it is also necessary to dig around it to pull it out.

Re: Interesting numbers...muskrat catch aver 4 days

Our percentage was not that good though. To get those 16 muskrats on day 1 we had out almost 100 traps in 6 locations. The total check time took 2 hours. And so far we lost three rats to wring-offs....

Interesting numbers...muskrat catch aver 4 days

I found it interesting that over the first 4 days our catch numbers have dropped by about 50% each day. It makes perfect sense because we had the same weather conditions for the four days.

Day 1 =...

Re: Eating muskrat...how to "butcher"?

Yes, I was wondering about the glands myself. The chunks of meat my son has cut off do not smell "musky" at all so maybe the glands did come off with the skin.

Eating muskrat...how to "butcher"?

One of our landowners wants us to save a muskrat for him to try eating. How should we save the meat?? Cut chunks off of it?? Like little muskrat steaks?

Truck bed organization?

We replaced our Mazda B2600 truck with an a '97 Ford F150 short bed with a tall aluminum cap. Anyone have any helpful hints, or even better, photos of how you organize your truck bed for trapping.
