Wouldn't it be nice
If you could trap coyotes year round like in Ohio? Any thoughts?

i was just thinking the same thing.. kind of depressed the season is nearing the end. I live 5 minutes from ohio, but none of my traps meet the jaw spread requirements. I run all bridger number 3's and mb 650C, so this might be an excuse to pick up a dozen or two mb 550's. Been meaning to get some anyhow.

iwould disagree , what would you do with all the incidentals ? no matter what is done there will be some damage to released animals

Re: Wouldn't it be nice
i agree with dietsch...cant specifically ONLY catch yotes....

even then, i still wouldnt do it and dont see why anyone would unless i had one specifically killing calves or something...which we could always shoot here in PA...

You can out here in MT.
But really why would you do it if the pelt isn't prime.

When trapping season goes out, the predator call gets a work out! I like to shoot things almost as much as I like catching em!!

I would like to see a longer CR season to start, it would be nice to be able to use them in the fall.

Re: Wouldn't it be nice
The legalization of cables came many years after I left the PTA Executive Board. Back in the 70's I tried to open a dialogue between the Association and the Game Commission to discuss the possibility of the use of relaxing lock snares. The then Executive Director of the Game Commission summoned me to his office and flatly told me the staff would never recommend such a measure to the Commission. As far as they were concerned the issue was dead. Obviously the dog people [hunters] had a strong influence in Harrisburg.

For that matter I think they still do or at least must be appeased. I do not believe the Commission will ever permit the use of relaxing lock snares while there's a chance of catching pointers, bird dogs and bunny beagles.

I just think it goes back to that age old fear of the lethal snare, which are in use in many states. That, plus I am sure there are many CRs being hung that are not Pennsylvania legal. These are probably purchased through ignorance. A trapper sees a price he can afford and buys without first finding out if his purchase is legal or not. I personally saw this happen at a convention.

But I'm sure others will have other opinions. Stay tuned.
