Re: The "bounty" system
Wow. They really hammered these guys. They lose their head coach for a season? Wow.

Reports that individual player penalties will be announced in the next few days.

Re: The "bounty" system
What was it the Patriots got when caught cheating? Nothing like this.

Re: The "bounty" system
Just saw that Asst. Head Coach was also suspended first 6 games.

Wait until Goodell hits New Orleans in February for the Super Bowl. Better be wearing a bullet proof vest.

Re: The "bounty" system
The Patriots were stripped a 1st Round pick, team fined $250,000 and Belicheck himself was fined $500,000.

This time I think Godell got it right. If the investigation revealed that all of those people were involved then the punishment fits the crime.

It is football and we all love to see big hits but to reward players for knock outs or cart offs is shameful. Other teams may do it, players may do it with other players but this was from the GM on down and they got caught.

New Olreans probably won't welcome him to town but I will say this, the Saints even without Payton have a good chance to be the first host city to have a team in the game.

GODell hates the Black & Gold, north or south! Saints Vs Steelers in NOLA would be a dream come true.

Re: The "bounty" system
This is nothing knew, I remember watching a "beyond the glory" episode quite a few years ago about the same thing going on in the 70's. Owners were buying fur coats, jewelry, cars, and a lot of other stuff for players that could take another player out of the game.

I'll bet almost every team in the NFL has a similar situation. Some of it is probably done by the players without involving coaches or owners.

Re: The "bounty" system
Not that Payton didn't deserve it, but he gets suspended for a season without pay, and Belicheat basically got told "Shame on you, don't cheat anymore, OK buddy?" Must be nice for your owner to have the commissioner in his back pocket.

Roger Goodell-makin it up as he goes along again.

Re: The "bounty" system
This is weird that they are making a big deal about this now with the saints as others have mentioned this has been going on on many teams for years. Just a couple years ago it was on the news and radio about the ravens offering bounties on pittsburgh players. Ray Lewis never got suspended. ???
