SD card advice

I know this is a long shot but wondering if anyone else has had an issue like me or has any advice on a fix.
I have about 10 clips from a PA hunt/ kill on an 8 gb Maxell card. I could view the clips last week on my laptop. I could not delete the clips or transfer them for some reason but I didn't try to hard. I was planning to and did ship the card off to my buddy who produces the vid. He called me today and cannot get either of his computers to read the card. It won't even recognize that a card has been inserted into either of his machines or his video camera, which is the same canon as mine. Are their security settings that I might have accidentally changed? Any thoughts? Already tried moving the tab on the SD. Thanks in advance.
