in blairsville, southern indiana county, a very large and apparently wounded buck crossed over rt 22 and ran into a arons/walmart parking lot where a guy pulles out his pistol and begins shooting at the thing.

if any average joe with a pistol permit began firing rounds at a deer in a crowded parking lot you bet your day would end in silver bracelets.
Can you post a link to the information?

Not to bash any ex/present cops on this site but I know of a couple that are less than exceptional with their firearms. The one was hunting on the same property as us last year and shot a doe's leg off and only retrieved the leg. He then proceeded to shoot a buck through the hips. If he couldn't hit a deer with a scoped rifle, how great of a shot can he be with an open sight pistol.

i guess i can video the fireman who told me? i personally know a bunch of cops and ex cops and although they are my buddies i still bust their chops for being immune to the law.
You should at least ask him where he heard it. I know lots of firemen and they gossip just as much as anyone.

I would imagine pretty decent. Most cops don't train and qualify with a rifle. They do their pistols. How many guys that are great with a rifle, would shoot lights out if you handed them a pistol and said "show me what ya got"?

i agree they tend to gossip a bunch. so being a bit preturbed about this, i asked around work today if anyone heard of what exactly happened. here is what i have go so far. my foreman apparently went to high school with the guy who shot the buck. it was killed with a 9mm semi auto and the guy was arrested and the game com confiscated the deer after it was taken to a processing shop. they guy is apparently not an ex cop. and my foreman said i don't even think he can legally have a gun. i saw pics of the deer, what a deer! absolutely huge.

A lot like the Jeanette (Westmoreland County) cop was let off easy for trespassing in the spring gobbler season, and shot a BALD EAGLE out of a tree before daybreak!!! He did not get off totally free, but it was an awful lot like a 'hand slap.'
gave up his shotgun, 4000.00 fine , and lost his hunting license for three years....that sounds a lot more serious than a "hand slap" to me...

Also as for the cop being a poor shot, not all departments fully train their officers. I had a member of NYC's finest shooting one day and had toteach him how to operate my 9mm semi-auto and also a 12 ga. pump. All he knew was his .38 wheelgun.

The deer was shot @the the Blairsville Walmart. It was jumped up from private property near Blairsville high school. Ran across rt. 22, then into the Arons store window where it was said to have broke the tip of its tine off. Then it proceeded through the parking lot towards Walmart store, bashing. Parked cars along the way, when it then ran into the
Walmarts building and headed towards the Lawn and Garden Center, falling down and running into a few things. Then that is when the pick up truck pulled up and the guy got out, shot the deer, loaded it up and went on his way. It was confiscated and I believe that the guy didn't even have a hunting license. He took it to the processor. He is from Derry. I wont post his name for i'm not 100% that I have it right, but his initials are A.B.. i'll try to get the pic up for y'all.
