Brand new gun and scope combination, used Lightfields 2 3/4" hybrid exp 1 1/4 oz 546 grain shell.

The gun initially shot 24" low and 12" RT, made several adjustments( (3 group rounds and 4" adj until we where close) and was 2" high at the bull at 50yds. We shot 3 shells at 100yds all within 3 1/2 of the bull. Then the 4th, 5th shot at 100 yds did not hit paper 12" x 12" square. Back to 50 yd and we are shooting 18" low and rt.

I believe it is in the scope, but I am not exactly sure why or how?
Two different shooters off a fixed bench with a good fully adjustable rest to take the human error fact away with the same results.
Any ideas what could be going wrong? The scope was mounted at Gander Mtn.

How much time did you allow bet. shots?
On hot, humid days,a heated barrel will definitely affect impact.
Not to be a wiseguy, but was this firearm boresited?
Also, you spent a lot of time and ammo:
"The gun initially shot 24" low and 12" RT, made several adjustments( (3 group rounds and 4" adj until we where close) and was 2" high at the bull at 50yds."

Might want to consider more radical adjustments as opposed to "walking in" the shots.

Were you shooting from a lead sled by chance??? I seen slug guns shot out of lead sleds destroy even good scopes. All that massive recoil has to go somewhere. Normally your shoulder gradually slows the gun down, absorbing the shock. But them lead sleds are like putting the gun against a brick wall and pulling the trigger, all the shock goes into the action and the scope.

I did use a rest, not a lead sled, but similiar. Using a shotgun for deer hunting is new to us.I thought a good rest was essential to make sure the guns where on since, this was the first time my dad and myself ever shot a slug gun.. We are preparing for an Illinois gun hunt.
In regards to being bore sighted,it surely did not act like it but it should have since my dad purchased the gun and scope from Gander MTN.

So back to the drawing board, we will take the gun and scope to get checked out and bore sighted.

Thanks everyone for your ideas,,,, I will let you know we make out

Bad news for you, I had the exact setup with a Hastings Barrel and Nikon Omega 3-9x40. Went through quite a few slugs, a few would shoot a good group, then the next group would be all over. I sent the scope back to Nikon, they said the eye piece separated from the main tube. They blamed slug gun recoil. Try a diff scope.

I did a painful day of trying to sight in my 870 for slugs. A broken scope and bruised shoulder later I decided I would use a muzzleloader. Legal any where a slug is and much more fun to shoot.

Need to use scopes made fore the heavy recoil. I used a cheap scope for ky slug gun and within 6 shots the shots were all over the place. Sent it back got a new one and same thing. Sent that one back and got a phone call asking what I was using the scope on and I told them a slug gun. Was informed from the manufactor it was not made to handle the recoil. Switch to a Leupold shotgun scope and never had problem since. Shoots 1 to 1.5 inch groups at 100yrds and touching shots at 50yrds.

Navagator,
I have an 870 with a cantilever mount, screw in chokes. It wears a Simmons 1.5-5x ProDiamond Turkey reticle. It has served well with Federal 3 inch 5's for a bunch of one shot turkeys and with the screwin rifled choke using Remington Sluggers, Fed Truball or Brenakes 2 3/4 inch quite a few Delaware Deer. Rig has functioned with no problems for over 20 years. Also have a Marlin 512P with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 handles Hornady SST's for longer /stand shots no problem with movement of POI.
Navagator (the OP) send me a PM for a detailed method to take some of the wiggle out of the woggle!

Scope Update :
My dad took the gun back to Gander Mtn and just as many of you had suspected there was one lower mount that was loose causing us the problem of inconsistant shots.
Thanks for all your great advice, I just wish that I caught
it earlier. I could have saved him $30 in ammo.
