just recently visited k-wood with the wife and kids, and as usual, i forgot about the piece of sharpened steel in my pocket. it made the metal detector go "beep" and i was fully prepared to make the walk back to the buggy to drop it off, but they offered to check it instead. this peaked my curiosity so i asked if they check firearms as well.

"absolutely" was the response from the sgt on duty. his comment to me is that they would rather me bring it to the gate and check it than leave it in the car to be stolen, and they'd rather me carry in that neighborhood than not. Very pleasant, surprising tact from the security at the park. just wanted to share

Interesting and a sign of changing times. Personally I have very fond memories of Kennywood from the 1950's and early 60's and I am bothered by the fact that it is apparerently necessary that the place now is patrolled by armed security. I remember well the days when one of the real hazzards of Kennywood was stepping in pony poop. Last time I visited with my kids (maybe 10 years ago) I could not shake the thought of an exchange of gunfire could take place. We made a special trip to visit Kennywood from our home in Chester County because I wanted my kids to see a special place. They had a wondeful time and that was the point.
