Anyone have a good deer load for a 223. My son is going to be using one this year and I was looking for a good deer load. I know that a 223 is on the light side for deer but seems to be a good fit for him. Thanks for the help!
Here's a link to midwayusa. Any of these loads will work great for deer, if they shoot well in your gun. The only way to figure that out is to buy some and shoot them. If you handload, the barnes copper bullets, or the nosler partition are great choices.
If you have a 1:12 twist you maybe limited to a 55gr ball and smaller. However if you have 1:7 you'll be in great shape and will just have to find the heavier ball your barrel likes. Good luck
Like they said twist is a big deal. but if ur gun likes 55gr bullets go with federal they load a 55 grain barnes triple shock all copper round. i got a noce doe with it last year. through the heart and lungs through both sides at 70 yards. she dropped in 30 yards. massive expansion and good.price too 27 bucks for a box
I hear you...I bought a .243 for my sons to share as a first gun. My oldest went right to a 30.06 but the middle one is afraid of recoil and I may have to pick him up a used .223 for deer. I have heard good things about the partian bullets. I've had poor results from the Berger VLD's I loaded for the kids .243 on deer.
