Guys, can we make a sticky for the CR and Successful Fur class schedules? The PGC website is basically worthless for finding these classes. Why they dont go to a master list of courses filtered by dates I will never know. Just looked this morning and theres no classes in the next 5 months within a couple hundred miles of my house. That just cant be. If we create a sticky then we can all share info and keep updated on these courses. Thanks.

You most likely didn't find a class because most of us instructors haven't come up with a date for our courses.

I know a CR class will be held at the PTA Convention in June, but the date hasn't been finalized or input into the system yet.

A CR class will be held in Elizabethtown on march 25.

The PGC site is very simple to navigate all you have to do is click on the kind of course you want to take and look for a class. But it's to early in the year for instructors to think about having a class that is most likely why you can't find a class on line.

I do not hold any CR or Furtakers Class until mid September

Casey, i understand what you are saying and although I appreciate the volunteer work of the instructors and the idea all together, successful furtaking and CR classes would be much more efficient if they were offered in the summer months rather than during hunting season. It would give guys like me, who trap but have never used CR's a chance to get to learn the trade and practice building / setting snares before the season. With that being said, I work in the technology field and when I say that the PGC website is basically worthless, it should hold some weight. I know the PGC is understaffed and overworked as is but they could do much better with updating and maintaining their website. Check out the sites of other states surrounding PA....awesome sites. But hey, something is better than nothing. Thanks for the tip. I still think a sticky would be the way to go....guys like you who hold these kinds of classes can post them before the commission "gets around to it." Take it easy.

I like the sounds of that sticky.

The thing that really gets my dander up are guys that got certified to be a CR instructor and to this day have never held a class.

and as of last year there were vstill a few of them out there.

By now I would imagine that their certification has been revoked?

It is my understanding that once the instructor or in some cases the Officer sets up a course, he/she is the one to post it to the calendar on the commissions website.

2012 will be my first year trapping and am always looking for help and info. I see you are from Pike County, is that where you have classes? And what is a Furtakers Class?

Thanks, Paul

Somehow I can see this being true.
Moderator's Note:
I have deleted the remainder of the commentary of this post because attacking the PGC has nothing to do with scheduling CR classes.

If this is indicative of what would transpire on a class scheduling thread, perhaps we are better off without it.

WoW! Wardog, something bad must have happened to you. I'm sorry you feel that way. I've never had any bad experiences anytime that I've interacted with any Game Wardens. I'm not saying your feelings are warranted or not, I'm sure like any organization with human beings involved your bound to find a bad apple or two. Good luck man.

I will say some of their website is a little on the cheesy side.

They have never messed with me, and and I have never given them a reason to.... But IMO they are complete jo's that have no concept!!!! Idiots looking to write fines so they can stand around and thump their chest with their other insecure peers. I have to question their motive, I really believe it is small man syndrome and they are pi ssed that everyone doesn't bow to their every whim......... They demand respect but few will offer. Once again, little man syndrome.

Browntrout,

go to the pgc site, click on news release and read release # 019-12, it tellsyou what you need to do to become an instructor.

dwj your right PGC does not post the classes, the instructor posts the class.

Repsag I'll hold a cable restraint class about the 3rd week in Sept. in pike county.it will be at sgl 180 building shohola.I'll post it on hpa when I figure out the date. It will be on a sunday.plus I will shoot you a pm when I figure out a date.

the successful furtakers course is a fairly new class that is strictly hands on and VERY informative. this class is perfect for new trappers.I highjly recommend that you take this class. If you take this class you will not need to take a cable restraint class because thjat is allso covered in the successful furtakers class.

Citations and warnings yearly percentages:
State Polce percentages for speeding tickets: 2/3 citations and 1/3 warnings.
PA Game Commission percentages for laws broken: 1/3 citations and 2/3 warnings.

So much for the little man syndrome. Lets do away with law enforcement and let the low lifes and outlaws have their way to destroy hunting, fishing and trapping.

pap, you tell them. I was always taught and told if your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. Although thats not always the case when dealing with big brother. I will say I've always felt good chatting with Pa. Game Wardens. It's usually a small Q&A session from me if I sense their not in a hurry and most times they will appease your questions. I ask them things like "where you guys seeing the grouse" or "where are all the yotes at"? My hats off to them. Think about what it would be like without them in todays world. Plus put yourself in their shoes for one minute. I never thought about it this way before, but their actually caught in the middle. [censored] if they do and [censored] if they don't. They not only have to put up with outlaws and low lifes, but what about the anti's. I bet if you wore that uniform for a week, people would have a different respect for them. Most people are to cowardly to say anything to their faces, but I'm sure they hear alot of back ground chatter.
