My two cents- the hunters that oppose any move to expand hunting opportunity better rethink their positions and start defending hunting on all levels. HSUS is getting serious.

Sara Speed (HSUS) has announced her candidacy for the PA House.

Huge News! Today, a true humane candidate declared her candidacy for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for District 47 (York County)! Sarah Speed, who has lobbied for animal legislation in Harrisburg and dedicated her life to many worthwhile causes, including making the world a better place for animals, today submitted petitions to run. The citizens of that district will have a true advocate and compassionate leader who is not afraid to work hard. Help us in wishing her luck!

If elected she will seek, with backing and lobbying from HSUS HQ, positions on G&F, Justice, and Ag Committee's.

Remember - we are only one election away from having those in opposition to our lifestyle in positions to seriously threaten it. One person can't do it. But if elected she will join others of the same mind already in office.

I believe that is Rep. Keith Gillespie's seat. He is on the HG&F Committee, has served since 2003 and as far as I know, is running for re-election? Have spoken with him a few times, pretty good guy in my opinion.

This is what lies ahead for hunters and our sport with changing demographics. Yet, some choose to insist on political control of game management.

We are fortunate that Pa is hunter friendly at the moment. It is inevitable that this support will drop as time moves forward. Positioning ourselves to fight this new battle will be paramount for our way of life to survive. This by supporting pro hunting initiatives based on sound game management principles.

She will not win. But, the antis have changed thier approach with this only offering a glimpse of what ahead for us. They are already using hunters to help thier cause.

Do you mean like when we run to the politicians to get what we want? I have always said it was a double edged sward when people suggested we write to our reps to get what we want. Seems we have blazed a trail even a greenhorn can follow.

Case in point on the Tenn. issue. What and who is really driving that train wreck about to happen? Waugh!

Sarah is definitely running as a Democrat against Shane Richardson in the primary. Shane has been hunting and fishing all his life and is a major supporter of hunters, their issues and would be a primary advocate in Harrisburg. Shane's website is www.richardsonforstatehouse.com. He will be posting a statement about his position on hunting and fishing within this week. Please feel free to contact him and ask any questions you may have.

As hunters, it is vital he is elected in April.

More "humane legislators" running, as to their voluntary statements to HSUS.

From HSUS: We love seeing legislators who are proud of their record of voting against animal cruelty! Thank you to Representative Justin Simmons; John Taylor; Dan Truitt; Nick Miccarelli;Todd Stephens and anyone we missed for proudly posting your record of compassion on your pages along with our scorecard!

http://bit.ly/HumanePAScore. Thank you also to candidate Matt Miles and any we missed for posting and most of all thank you to all who shared and let your legislators know you care about how they vote!
