I tanned a deer hide 2 years ago and used Trappers Hide Taning Formula. It had step by step instructions right on the bottle, and have yet to have any problems with the hide.
Careful with what you are getting and what you are using it for. There are tanning "oils" that actually do the tanning of the hides, and there are tanning oils that act as a lubricant and softening agent, but are to be used after tanning.
You can use krowtann 2000 it's a one step tanning process no salting or pickling
