I spent the day doing a skull mount on this years buck. I tried peroxide with this one instead of bleach. It has a more natural look, not the bright white I get from bleach. I could soak it longer to get it whiter, but I kinda like it this way. Anyone else do their own skulls? If so, how do you do them?

Quick tip on preventing antler discoloring, spraying them with cold water, or just pouring cold water them periodically while boiling really helps. Another trick I have used that worked fairly well is pointing a fan at the pot while boiling to immediately blow the steam away.

I buried a doe head one time b/c she was very old. Teeth were flat. Actually forgot about the skull but uncovered it in my topsoil pile the next fall. It was stained but otherwise perfect. Had dermasted beetle casings all over it. My buddy is currently trying it in a large bucket filled with sawdust and covered. We drilled holes in it and buried it. Might keep the skull a little cleaner. Otherwise, I boil mine.

I'm doing a European again this year. I cut a notch on each side of the brain stem and scooped the brain out. Put it in a baggie and twisty tied it to the ear tag. Put it in the bag at the CWD bin and never heard nothing. My doe came back clean but they never entered my buck. No procedures in place for European mounts in CWD areas. I've had E-mail's back and forth with the CWD people. This morning I talked to a girl in the CWD section at Hdqtrs. She said they need to update the CWD info concerning European mounts.
