Had a fun hunt with my son and our 2 hounds. The dogs trailed well even in the morning when it was still very cold. We killed 6 but could of had a few more but 6 is plenty. I love that my dogs retrieve and have a gentle mouth on the bunnies. Saves a lot of crawling into the thick stuff. A fun day in the snow.
They are both Chop A Line. I use to hunt with an older gentleman that had 2 outstanding beagles for trailing fast. The only problem was you had to beat his dogs to the rabbit or they would tear it up and try to eat it. They would also fight any dog that got near them while they had the rabbit. The guy would not feed his dogs the day before the hunt saying it made them hunt better. He also would let them eat some of the guts when he gutted each rabbit as he shot them. It made sense that his dogs would try and eat anything that was shot.
That's a great day over the hounds.
The not feeding the dogs day before hunt was also told by a old timer also. I tried it. Didn't see a difference, but does make sense in a way, "run to catch the rabbit for dinner " .
Anyway, great hunt
