The fluctuations in temps has slammed shut ice fishing for the time being. Forecast is for 46 deg today, so maybe I should uncover the boat and fish open water on new years eve. Now that would be a first for me. Anyone else still using their boats? FT :grin2:
My boats down at my VA place itching for an early flounder drift in late March! Been too warm for any lock-ups in my neck of the woods here in York County. May have to travel up to my camp and try Hunters & Rose Valley Lakes assuming some cold ever arrives. Years ago I was ice fishing New Years Day more times than not even down in Maryland on Broad Creek(above Conowingo Dam). Those days seem to be a thing of the past.
I ice fished four times before Christmas...that has me itching to get back out asap. If my buddy wants to go today, the boat is getting taken out of dry dock.
Yeah , this weather is definitely not ice fishing friendly . My boat is winterized sitting in a farmers out building . I may get the itch to do some shore fishing ? Sure would beat sitting in the house getting cabin fever .
The fish are still there regardless of whether there is ice or not! Places like Hunter's Lake that get late fall stockings of trout should still be loaded? Several years ago a friend and I took my boat out on New Year's Eve, just a very thin skim of ice. I never heard more noise than an aluminum boat going thru that thin layer but we still caught fish!
