Mass exodus of camp hunters?

They all moved to 2F?

I don't get it either....that used to be a no-go for even non-res tags being available and now it seems if you want two it's not an issue. I'm sure they're sell out this round, but it's trending towards getting three if you want them if this keeps up!

I wish 2F would go that way....I could stand to have a couple of those!

If the trends continue as they are I figure we will see that happen someday.

That's it exactly. The 2G sales are right in line with what they had been last year at this time. If the allocation had not increased 2G would have sold out yesterday. last year it sold out on the first day of the second round and would have done the same this year but for the allocation increase.

The other factor is that 2G has enough DMAP's, that become available to non-residents at the same time residents can get them and can be used the first week of the season to take an antlerless deer, so many non-residents get two of the DMAP permits and don't even bother applying for an antlerless license since they can't be used until the first Saturday or the second week.

Yes your cyphering is correct, but they still take full advantage of them.

To help put the 2G sale in perspective I am going to post the history of the allocations and sales for the unit.

Year...…………..allocation...……………….when sold out

2011...…………..23,000...………………….First Friday available and before non-residents could apply

2012...…………..33,000...………………...Wednesday after the first round of unsold went on sale

2013...…………..28,000...………………...Tuesday after the first round of unsold went on sale

2014...…………..22,000...………………...Second Wednesday but before non-residents could apply

2015...…………..22,000...………………...Second Tuesday but before non-residents could apply

2016...…………..21,000...………………...Second Monday which was first day of Non-resident applications

2017...…………..25,500...………………….Monday when the first round of unsold went on sale

2018...…………..30,000...………………...Will likely sell out on either Tuesday or Wednesday of the first week first round of unsold are on sale

When you look at the allocations and the sales time frames this year's 2G sales are right where one would expect them to be base on past sales history.

On the western side of 2g,there's a marked improvement in the quality of habitat and that's making the deer come back. You combine well fed deer, decreased visibility and low pressure, another 4500 tags over that area won't scratch the surface of what's out there. They need to increase harvests to maintain what has been gained with the habitat.

I live right on the border of 2H/2G and hunt a lot in 2G within a few miles of the largest population center in this part of the state. It's mostly public land that's riddled with camps and I haven't see a person in the woods during any deer season in the past three years.Last year,my son and I hunted strictly DMAP properties and we never saw a person, never heard a close shot and never saw where someone killed a deer.During rifle season,my 12 year old killed three dmap doe in three days of hunting during rifle season. Two of them were before school. The last one was on the last day.He had a wrestling tournament in Huntington that ended a little before 3:00.We rushed home,he got dressed in the garage and we headed to the one DMAP area about 2 miles from home.We had less than 20 minutes of shooting light left and right before dark, three doe came down to him and he killed one.He hunted less than three hours to kill those three deer. How bad can hunting be?

This year I finally joined the DMAP crew and bought myself 2 tags plus my regular doe tag... Now I doubt i'll fill all 3 tags, but I do plan to fill the freezer! To me, having those extra doe tags helps me be more selective in the buck I harvest. I'm a lot less likely to take a 2yo 6pt if I can already put meat in the freezer through a couple doe tags.... And i'll admit, the chance to harvest either a buck or a doe in the first week of rifle is also a plus!

I feel the same way. I have 2 DMAPs and a 2F tag. I'll tranfer at least one of those to my kid hopefully and I'll try to stick a doe early myself with that 2F tag. Come rifle season doe season isn't an issue with DMAPs in hand so we put deer down. Tons of versatility for our crew on our property.

I think they are getting carried away with the doe and Dmap tags in 2G !!
They know if they make them available they will sell them no mater how many Dmap or Doe tags they make available ! I think they are using it as a way to recoupe some more money ! I would rather they would raise the price of licenses !
Don't get me wrong I know there are deer out there and they are finally making a little comeback ! I run 14 trail cams year round and in several different areas of 2G and I see as many bucks as I see does but that's not that many for having that many cams out ! Most of the does and fawns I have on cams are allot of repeats ! This year is the least fawns I've seen in years !
If they keep this selling of all the tags in this area it will be right back to the way it was before and that was very few deer sightings !!
I've hunted here all my life and spend more time in the woods than most people and I can tell you I have watched it go from one extreme to the other !

Yeah basically there are "good" County Treasurers that process applications quickly, and "bad" CTs that are slow. There is no public listing, we are left to play a guessing game to find the good ones. Those with a good one don't want to share it for fear of overloading theirs and turning them bad. Makes sense, nice and easy for newcomers to hunting to understand, right? And every year when threads pop up questioning this system, a lot of people actually defend it.

Me neither lol. First round first day i think 08:36 i was awarded, round 2 first day 07:32 awarded second tag. They are generally pretty fast but this year they were really on their game. County treasurers sure love doughnuts lol. Kidding i have no clue who the CT's are where i send mine too.

128 tags left as of close of business today.

My chances don't look good, lol. I should have put in for it in the first round, but plum forgot I had an invite up there for flint season. D'oh!

I might get lucky in the morning, but if I had to bet, I'd bet I get my 2nd choice and I go north with a buck tag to use for flint season...unless I use it first. And then I'll go north with a walking stick and my hiking boots and my long rifle will have to stay home.

I've often heard people talk about the lower deer numbers up that way. Like I said I'm sure certain areas have lower numbers but I know the areas I hunt in 2G have plenty of deer. Heck, I'm dodging them on my way to work nearly every morning. I hunt sproul on occasion and often hear people complain about there being no deer, which isn't the case, just got to put the time in.
