My guess is that without the funny comment, ya, Frank's wrapped it here at HPA which is certainly disappointing. The place is without a doubt less entertaining without him posting. The world of internet forums isn't for everyone though and Frank is a very polarizing poster and tends to garner attention from fly-fisherman much more than the rest of us that post similar topics. Those that post unique and often times amazing things have to be able to deflect and handle people who criticize them at times. I've seen more than excellent contributor wash out of HPA because this. In fact I would say that MOST excellent contributors wash out eventually after some sort of forum altercation. Hopefully over time he comes back. I don't know Frank personally but he's got a passion for trout fishing that really none of us can match and puts pens to paper better than anyone I know. He also seem like a genuinely good person. If he never posts again though HPA will go on and hopefully another person will take his place and help those of us that post pics and stories to keep the place entertaining.
I can't remember any specifics, but I remember Frank was involved in a heated back and forth earlier this year. I hope he comes back. This whole place won't be the same without him.
The guy certainly made entertaining posts. They were fun to read. That said, some folks can endure negative banter and responses, some can't and will quit, and some actually prefer to engage in contentious posts over any other dialog, which is odd. And while there was obviously no love loss between he and fly fisherman, he dished it out also. Some references were a bit veiled if you didn't know the history. Such as, (paraphrase) "The action was hot until I encountered a fly fisherman", or "Two fly fisherman got ahead of me, and..." etc... I also have to disagree with Trout2003, in that he had a passion that no others can match on here. There are a few posters that acquit themselves quite well in that respect. Trout'03 being one of them.
That’s a shame. I really enjoyed reading his stories and seeing his pics. He seemed very passionate about trout fishing and sounded like a good guy. Hope he is well. There are a number of you here though that can seemingly slide into his spot as your stories and pics are second to none!
To answer Troutbert. No, I have no first hand info that Frank left because of the last post he was involved (Which I had to delete many many posts from) in. I'm just speculating that he quit at all. Maybe he's on a massive mega fishing binge for all I know. I would hope that would be the case. I can't recall when but a year or two ago he disappeared for a looong time after a forum spat but resurfaced with some excellent adventures. To clarify again, my post was in no way negative towards Frank or anyone else. I respect and appreciate Franks efforts both on the stream and on the board. Frank is/was an asset to the board for sure just like every other member that contributes. I would hate for the board to lose him but the Trout forum was here for about 15 year before Frank and if he in fact has hung up his keyboard it will be here after him just like if any one of us leave. We all have our shelf life in places like this and nobody last forever......although I'm trying ;-)
Anybody remember SpiritNugent ? That cat could tell a tale right proper. And I'm a little po'ed that he left, without divulging that secret Golden Trout killer lure or bait he used. Haha ! That was incredible.
The Nuge-special is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. He's was/is an awesome dude. Really really like Tony as well as I can a guy who I only know from the site and respect the heck outta him. He struggled with this forum mightly as guys questioned the amazing things he'd do. So he left. It's not for everyone. Ya just gotta shrug shrug stuff off or be willing to get down and dirty. There's no middle ground or the mob will eat'cha up.
I really enjoyed his posts and pics. In every kind of outdoor endeavor, there are those who represent the top 3% of the sport. Doesn’t matter if it’s predator calling, mink trapping or water fowlers. I thought Frank was a true upper end of the spectrum fisherman.
