Ya picked some good one,s there. They are papinkies or honey mushrooms. To me the same.Very edible.Goin out tomorrow to wyalusing.Always get a few there and ramshead.
thanks, I got rained out today going back Sunday should get a half bushel or so. I wish I would have found these about 3 days ago. Ill take some pics before I pick and post them
I see you pulled them out by the roots. I hope they aren't too buggy when you start cutting them. Stumpies as we call them often have bugs in them. Hopefully they're young enough to be OK.
I got caught in a down puring rain as soon as I found the patch. So I just grabed a bunch to bring out with me. We always cut them when we pick for drying
There is a deadly look-a-like to the honey mushroom (the deadly galerina), so make sure before you eat them. Safest thing is to do a spore print if you are uncertain. Honey mushroom has a white spore print and the galerina has a brown spore print. I am not a mushroom expert, but I am sharing this from mushroom ID books I have. I figure it is better to be safe than sorry.
I found a couple hen of the woods today and some honey mushrooms. Cooked some of the hen and it was pretty tasty.
